It’s On: Informational Pickets Start October 23!

In our recent bargaining session on Sept. 27, the District did not come back with a fair wage proposal. They're still offering the same one-time 2% raise, but they added on 1% one-time bonus. This is NOT the "generous" offer they said they'd come back to us with and it certainly is not [...]

On Wages: District Disappoints Again – Time to Turn Up the Heat

Our Bargaining Team met with the District on September 27. LAUSD’s negotiator had promised to come back with a “generous” wage proposal. So what did they offer? LAUSD continued to stick to their one-time 2% raise and now they added a 1% one-time bonus. They call this generous? The school board just got a 174% [...]

We push for more Special Ed hours and then LAUSD proposes cuts? Really?

SEIU Local 99’s LAUSD Bargaining Team is currently in contract negotiations with the District. In addition to wages and benefits, we’re pushing for better staffing and more services for the children with special needs that we serve. So just when we’re telling the district we need more hours and more positions, they retaliated and [...]

Some progress on Special Ed and LAUSD accepts our Custodian challenge

Our Bargaining Team met with the District on Tuesday, July 18. We made some progress in regards to the subcontracting of work to Behavior Intervention Implementation (BII) providers. We discussed the concept of creating a pilot program with LAUSD so that Special Education Assistants and other SEIU 99 members can have the opportunity [...]

LAUSD’s 2% wage proposal. 2%, really?

At our bargaining session on June 28, LAUSD presented us with a proposal for a one-time 2% wage increase. 2%, for three years, really? We said, no way. 2% is NOT enough! It’s not enough to raise our families with dignity and stability. It’s not enough for our hard work, our experience, [...]

They’re Listening!

We had a spirited and emotional Speak-Out in front of LAUSD Headquarters on Tuesday, June 13. And there’s no doubt that it had an impact on our bargaining session on Friday, June 16.  One of the first things the LAUSD negotiators said was that the School Board heard us -- and the District is working on a wage proposal to present to us soon. We let them know that we’re looking forward to a fair proposal.

Our Bargaining Team met with the District on Wednesday, May 24. We made some significant progress on language around labor management committees. It gives us a much stronger [...]

Proposals for better staffing, wage increases and training. Are you ready to fight?

During our bargaining session with LAUSD on May 10, we let the District know that they need to invest in what they have: dedicated workers! Some of us have decades on the job. We care about making sure students have clean and safe schools. Here are the proposals we presented: Improved staffing, including restoring [...]

Respect = Fair transfer process, subcontracting protections and a fair discipline process

The District says that every employee should be treated with dignity and respect. During our contract negotiations on April 19, we presented proposals to make sure that these are more than just words. We discussed positive ways to resolve workplace issues to ensure that we are all treated with respect. We also stood firm [...]
